napmaste: the need to nap in me see the need to nap in you. round humor.
2.5" round thin glossy handmade magnet
people love naps. that's the general consensus in our overworked society naps are an indulgence, a luxurious option for a rainy day or just because.
for people with narcolepsy, naps aren't optional. which leads to many having a love hate relationship with naps. on one hand it's a good thing that naps are like medicine for us but it's not so good that it's take the nap or the nap takes you, nor is it good that you might not feel any better after a nap.
lots of people need a nap at one point or another so when i see someone who "needs" to nap i feel for them, deeply. in that moment, they can understand my struggle just a little better. i have that empathy, that napmaste for them, letting them know I deeply understand, and they tend to look at me a little differently after that. with an awareness they wouldn't have otherwise.
this is just humor. as a person with narcolepsy, a lifelong sleep disorder, I find being able to find some humor, in as many things as possible, gives you some happy. And, happy matters.
for people with narcolepsy, somnias, apnea, or other situation that generates chronic sleep deprivation - naps are the brain's administrative assistant - filing away memories and cleaning off your mental desk. sleep deprivation is kind of a like a wildfire - it's hard to control and you never know what will or won't get damaged as it rages. understanding when sleeping will help and when it won't by paying attention to the "tell" in my brain, is so essential for my level of coping with narcolepsy.
